Abstract
The article discusses the questions of formation and development of citizens' bankruptcy institute in the Russian economy. Identified the dynamics of organizational and legal changes in the sphere of population's debt relations. Performed a comparative analysis of the effectiveness of the personal bankruptcy mechanism in the United States and Russia.
